Kennett Square Expansion

“Whoever designed this kitchen obviously didn’t cook” were the client’s words at the first meeting.  The existing kitchen was awkwardly laid out and notably undersized relative to the size of the expansive shingle style home that was built in the early 2000’s.  reorganization of an adjacent utility room and opening a wall to the adjacent family room allowed the kitchen footprint to be expanded.   The newly organized kitchen was designed with performance in mind while the finishes were intended to complement the house’s traditional shingle style architecture.  The resulting design vocabulary is honest, fresh and “of today”, but with a timeless quality.  Materials for the kitchen are durable and hard working in an effort to support the design vocabulary and create a kitchen that patinas with age.

In tandem with the kitchen renovation, new outdoor spaces were created.   Outdoor cooking and dining space, pool, spa, pool building and a new screened porch provide multiple outdoor hang out options.  The design of new outdoor spaces play off the shingle style motif of the existing house while adding a subtle modern twist to the detailing.
