Lake Norman Fly In

As you enter the steeply pitched lakefront site from higher ground, the low-pitched metal roof with deep overhangs is a prominent feature of this house.   Intended as a nod to the fly-in community in which it is located, the aviation inspired roof forms cap a contemporary composition of zinc cladding, wood siding and expansive lakefront glass that are anchored by a dark brick base.   Inside, an unexpected 2-story volume drops towards the lake and provides the opportunity for a vertical expanse of glass that directs views toward the lake below.    A lakefront pool and extensive outdoor living spaces create multiple opportunities for flow between the interior, the wooded site, and Lake Norman.
