Lake Tilliary Home

Located on a sprawling farm, the existing 1200 sf concrete block summer cottage had been renovated and was perfectly sited to capture expansive views of the lake beyond the gently sloping lawn.   With a goal to convert the summer cottage to a full time residence, various design strategies were studied and debated replacement vs. expansion of the original cottage.  In the end, expanding rather than replacing the cabin felt right.  Additions to each side of the original cottage pivot and step with the topography to keep the house grounded, rather than elevated.   New spaces include a transparent entry, great room, performance kitchen, large scale dining, outdoor living, owner’s suite, and all of the necessary support spaces.   The one room wide additions that flank the original cottage mean that all spaces receive views of the lake, the farmland and an abundance of natural light.
